Fluid-bed Research Gasifier (NRG)

National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Description

Semi-batch fluid-bed gasifier featuring extensive downstream processing including catalytic tar reforming and pressure-swing adsorption. Ability to process syngas to intermediates or final products in FSCL or store syngas in high-pressure cylinders.

Capability Bounds

The gasifier operates at atmospheric pressure and temperatures up to 1000C. At the present time use of oxygen is not allowed.

Unique Aspects

Feedstock flexible – the system can be used to gasify many different types of materials including biomass, MSW, plastics, and other waste carbons.

Availability

The system is available for contract work. For booking contact the capability expert listed above.

Benefit

Small-scale gasifier that does not require large quantities of feedstock for testing. Can be used to evaluate different gasification conditions and materials with quick turn-around for changing feedstock, bed materials, and/or downstream catalysts and sorbents.
