Davison Circulating Riser Reactor System (DCR)
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Description
The DCR is a fully integrated fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) pilot plant including a short-contact-time riser reactor (1-2 s), stripper, and catalyst regenerator. The system is integrated to a biomass pyrolysis reactor to facilitate direct feeding of pyrolysis vapors to the riser. Co-processing experiments can also be carried out by utilizing a dual liquid feed.
Capability Bounds
The reactor operates at 1 kg/h nominal feedrate and is designed to run at conditions that mimic a typical petroleum refinery FCC (short residence times, atmospheric pressure, and temperatures <750C).
Unique Aspects
Coupling to a pyrolysis system allows direct feeding of biomass-derived vapors to the reactor without prior condensation.
Availability
The system is available for contract work. Interested parties should contact the capability experts cited above.
Benefit
Results from the DCR can be directly scaled to full commercial operation based on years of experience with similar systems in petroleum refining.
